Duffy

Duffy, Auckland Central, 31 March 2009

What do you get when raw talent meets youth and beauty?

The unique sound and style of a young twenty-ish Welsh songstress by the name
of Amy Duffy, or just plain Duffy as the world is coming to know and love her.

Blessed with a striking vocal range and an undeniable presence, this pocket-sized
Welsh diva is bringing her phenomenal, distinctive voice and band to New Zealand
in March/April 2009 for three very special shows.

Duffy first seeped into our consciousness earlier this year with the rhythmic grace
of ‘Mercy,’ the first single from her classic retro-soul influenced album Rockferry.

This stunning debut effort achieved one million album sales in six short weeks after
release and made the number 1 spot in 11 countries - including New Zealand
where sales have now exceeded double platinum. Written and recorded with the
help of former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, Rockferry also boasts the emotionally
 soulful ballad, ‘Warwick Avenue.’

Blue-eyed soul does not come any better than this.

Don’t miss Duffy, live.

Sparks

With 30 millions album sales, 11 Grammy Awards, 4 US #1 albums, a name-check from Bob Dylan, and most recently being awarded the prestigious honour of recording the Bond theme with Jack White, Alicia Keys has set herself apart from her contemporaries. Selling almost 20 million singles, Alicia has created instant classics with the likes of 'Fallin', 'A Woman's Worth', 'Karma' and 'Superwoman', and has become one of the brightest stars of this decade.

Alicia’s special guest at all shows will be the esteemed Jordin Sparks. Winner of American Idol in 2007, it took Jordin little time to establish herself as one of the stars of 2008. Allowing them the privilege of choosing her second single, they settled on ‘No Air’ which saw Jordin hit #1 around the world – including Australia and New Zealand. Playing her first live shows in Australia and New Zealand as part of this tour, there’s no doubt that those before her will be left in awe.

On her last Australian and New Zealand tour in 2004, Alicia Keys sold out every show. There’s no doubt tickets to see Alicia live this December will sell fast. Secure yours when they go on sale this Friday 22 August.

James Blunt

James Blunt

James Blunt charmed Australian and New Zealand fans on his
maiden tour Down Under in 2006, selling out every single show.
James returned to our shores in 2007 for a one-off performance in Sydney –

when James Blunt returns to Australia and New Zealand this April and May.

James shot to worldwide prominence following the release of his

are able to after releasing just one album, Back To Bedlam hit #1 in
countless countries, awards and nominations for James began to mount up.

Spawning the hit singles ‘You’re Beautiful’ and ‘Goodbye My Lover’
James Blunt became a household name as they became the
anthems of 2006. Australian and New Zealand fans answered the
James Blunt call, proving to be the most devoted in his following.

Lionel Richie

It's been twenty long years, but the wait is finally over! Last on tour
here in 1987, 2007 will see Lionel Richie perform arena concerts
across both countries and a series of A Day On The Green winery concerts in Australia.

Lionel today said he is excited about his return to Australia and New Zealand.

With close to 100 million albums sold, a phenomenal 22 Top 10 hits, five
Grammy Awards, an Oscar and a Golden Globe, there are few
artists in the world who can rival the success of Lionel Richie.

Indisputably much of Lionel's ongoing career success can be accredited
to his considerable talents as a live performer. Recent UK and USA tour
reviews highlight just why Lionel continues to sell out tour after tour.

The Manchester Evening News gave the first of three 14,000
capacity sold out Manchester concerts 5 out of 5 stars.

The New York Times wrote "[he wasted] no time in demonstrating
both an undiminished voice and a willingness to revisit old hits."

The Bolton News (Manchester) declared "the man gave his all to an
audience who were on their feet all the way through. It was a truly professional
show, with humour, superb lighting and great musicianship. The only
downside of the show was the fact that it had to end."

The Oakland Tribune wrote "The pop/R&B vocalist is a true old-school
entertainer, one of the best left in the business."

During his two hour plus concert Lionel draws from his enormous
back catalogue of chart-toppers such as
'All Night Long', Truly',
Hello', ancing On The Ceiling', Endless Love', Say You, Say Me',
and the Commodores hits such as Still', Three Times A Lady',

Sail On', Easy', Brick House' plus newer hits such as his
US RnB #1 hit  Call It Love' from current album Coming Home
'

Joining Lionel on his upcoming tour is Australia's favourite diva and
celebrated singer, Marcia Hines. Like Lionel, Marcia has been a true
survivor of the music industry. With seven top 10 hits between 1975-1981,
Marcia's most recent Gold album
Discotheque' (Liberation Music)
charted into the Top 10 on the Australian ARIA charts.

A Lionel Richie concert leaves few people in their seats as Lionel's
infectious enjoyment in his performance has fans up and dancing from
the opening numbers...chances are if you buy a ticket to one of his
upcoming concerts you'll be dancin' on the ceiling
all night long!

Wellington priest Fr Chris Skinner is fast becoming a New Zealand’s idol with a pop recording that critics have described as better than the original.

Chris has recorded pop star Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up, supported by veteran singer Taisha.

It has impressed radio and recording heavyweights so much that it is now getting airplay on commercial radio and has prompted tour company Pacific Entertainment to stage a concert next month.

Chris will perform at Auckland’s St Patrick’s Cathedral on August 7 from 7.30pm. Seats will be limited. Bookings can be made with Ticketek. The first 500 tickets sold will come with a free CD featuring You Raise Me Up.

Part of the proceeds of the concert will go to youth at risk. Chris was a founding member of the ‘Youth Alive Programme’ which began in West Auckland in the early ‘90s to help youth offenders turn their lives around. He has continued to work with young people since then.

“I am delighted with the recording of You Raise Me Up,” says Fr Chris modestly.

“The lyrics of the song are very powerful and encouraging. The haunting melody evokes the same sentiments.

If my songs can reach people and support and encourage them in their lives, if they can enable people to express their inner feelings about their experiences and what’s important for them, if the dignity and rights of people are acknowledged, raised and celebrated, I have achieved my goal.”

Max Merritt and Dinah Lee & The Meteors

Max Merritt and Dinah Lee & The Meteors

For the first time in over thirty years these icons of sixties
rock are coming back to New Zealand to demonstrate Kiwi
Rock ‘n’ Roll as it should be!

The mighty Max Merritt started playing Rock ‘n’ Roll in Christchurch
50 years ago and quickly formed The Meteors. They took first
New Zealand and then Australia by storm in the sixties with hits like
‘Western Union Man’, ‘Try a little Tenderness’, ‘Shake’ and their biggest
hit ‘Slippin’ Away’ which was recorded in London. Throughout his life
as a singer, songwriter and performer, Max Merritt has walked the high wire, always without a safety net. When he became a star in New Zealand, he moved to Australia. When he achieved success in Oz he moved to London. When he recorded his biggest hit in the UK, he moved to America. It has been said many times that had he stayed put, Max Merritt would have probably been the biggest name in Australasian Rock.

The band are joined in their North Island tour by sixties
Pop Diva and ‘Queen of the Mods’ Dinah Lee, who’s smash
hits include ‘Don’t You Know Yockomo’, ‘Reet Petite’
(which used Max Merritt and the Meteors as session musicians
and) ‘Do the Blue Beat’ which truly established her Pop Diva status.
