Christchurch is gearing
up to celebrate 50 years of achievement by the local
teenagers who got their initiation to Rock and Roll music through
the Christchurch Teenage club.
In
the 1950’s there were very few places teenagers could gather to
listen
and dance to rock and roll music. The local Press of the times,
highlighted
teenage boredom, (with nowhere for them to meet other than
with church groups), as a factor in perceived teenage rebellion.
This meant teenagers gathered in Cathedral Square which culminated
in a
confrontation between Police, (plus the army Territorials)
and teenagers in Cathedral Square in 1957.
Norm Bland and Eddie Simon are to sing, play and
entertain throughout the day in
Victoria Square and Ben Blackett is to appear as Elvis at the Rock

Peter Williams, Pat Kearns, Phil Garland of the Playboys,
Norm Bland of Rhythm and Bland will perform at the Sunday night
Rockonz
Those
being inducted will give a short bird’s eye view of their career
and perform their favorite number. Trevor King QSM, will meet up
with
friends he helped start on their world wide careers.
All will take part in a Classic Car Parade on the
Free Fun day in Victoria Square Saturday 24th March,
at the beginning of the Festival. They will be welcomed to the City
by the
Mayor Garry Moore, on their arrival to the Victoria Square
Amphitheatre at midday.
Cecile Murphy, who with her husband Dion Murphy, conceived the idea
and are working to make it happen says: “In a rush of blood
to the head, I had this vision of celebrating the lives of the local
teenagers
who were our peers of the time. As Dion and I have been performing
music since 1958, it was what made us who we are. The musicians
we know, all gave countless hours of their lives bringing
entertainment
to the lives of the local community. The Festival is a celebration
of all those
good times which were unique in that they heralded the start of the
Rock and Roll era which still continues today”.
It's only Rock 'n' Roll, but we like it

fundraising for children's charities
She Festival, a celebration of
inspired creativity will be held 3rd-5th August at She
Cafe & Restaurant
in Governors Bay. The Festival is a feast for all your
senses and draws together many talented and
gifted women in this showcase of women's creativity.
Inspired by the ethos that we can live creatively,
rather than creativity being something we 'do', the
three-day event will host talks and seminars,
exhibition and performance.
Presenting women from many walks
of life, writers, businesswomen,
storytellers, dancers, therapists, hairdressers, and
even a chocolatier, an MP and a film producer - all
of whom are ordinary women and mothers - there is
something here for every woman. And every man...
All our proceeds are in
aid of two local children's charities - The Champion
Centre & The Children's
Programme at Christchurch Women's Refuge.
She Festival is brought to you in honour of the eminine
spirit. We invite all to come and share in

As

potential to
enhance our clients, its constantly improving and
evolving treatments
and products and by its ability to mould around us at
every stage
of our career and life. We are never bored, never
tired of learning.
We do sometimes think that New Zealand is a long way
behind the
rest of the World in introducing new products &
services but
we more that make up for that in our determination to
provide
our clients with the best possible service, to go that
little bit further.
An English client recently told me that she found New
Zealand
Therapists to be among the best she has experienced in
the World!
That’s something to be proud of!
